THE CARIBBEAN - Jamaica
Raquel McKee is a Caribbean born poet now living and working in N. Ireland. She has won awards in both regions.
Raquel has performed her Dub Poetry in England, Jamaica and in Northern Ireland at Parliament Buildings, Hillsborough Castle, Belfast City Hall and a number of festival venues. She is a regional champion of the All Ulster Poetry Slam competition. She has written for the BBC, for National Museums N. I. and for other commissions. Raquel’s work is currently part of the Global Voices, Local Choices exhibition in Ulster Museum, has featured in two other exhibitions and is included in curricular reading at universities – Sociology and Conflict Resolution course content at Ulster University and Queens University Belfast and is one element of a doctoral research piece at University College, Dublin. Her chapbook Elsewhere is Here is a collection of social commentary poems about Northern Ireland and was produced to mark 25 years since the Good Friday Agreement. In 2023 Raquel co-curated the Golden Shovel Poetry Jukebox – the first poetry installation in Europe focusing on issues of significance for People of African Descent.
