David Brookshaw

David Brookshaw is an emeritus professor at the University of Bristol who has published widely on postcolonial literatures in the Portuguese-speaking world. He has translated a number of authors, including Mia Couto and Paulina Chiziane from Mozambique, and has organised or participated in anthologies of short stories and poems from Portugal, Brazil, Angola and Macao. His translation of Mia Couto’s A Espada e a Azagaia, the second novel in a trilogy about the final years of Ngungunyane, the “Emperor of Gaza”, is due out in October under the title of The Sword and the Spear. He is currently working on a translation of a seminal novel, A Geração da Utopia, by the Angolan writer Pepetela.
